Simone Biles has been open about her struggles and has inspired others to speak up as well.
Simone Biles, the best gymnast of all time, has been chosen as Time Magazine’s Athlete of the Year for 2021. She was given this award as a consequence of her efforts to raise awareness about the importance of mental health.
Biles made a big statement by withdrawing from a team event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in order to focus on herself. What’s more astonishing is that Biles is the only gymnast still competing after the Larry Nassar sexual abuse scandal. She is still pressing for USA Gymnastics and the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee to be held responsible for what happened to her and her teammates.
From her training to food and sleep, the seven-time Olympic medalist has been completely dedicated to her craft as a great gymnast. Her bravery has inspired athletes like Naomi Osaka and Michael Phelps to speak up about their mental health. Congratulations!
