Rod Wave was arrested in St. Petersburg Fl.
According to booking records from the Pinellas County Jail, St. Petersburg rapper Rod Wave has been arrested and battery by strangulation.
According to Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Amanda Sinni, the rap star, whose real name is Rodarius Marcell Green, was detained on an Osceola County warrant.
Green was arrested during a traffic stop at 5119 Venetian Boulevard NE on Sunday night, according to his arrest affidavit from the St. Petersburg Police Department. He was traveling in the passenger seat of his own vehicle, a 2021 Grey Dodge Durango, and his driver’s license photo was used to identify him.
Rod Wave posted on his Instagram story showing what appears to be police before being arrested.
Green grew raised in the Cromwell Heights neighborhood on 13th Street S. After a video of him singing in a Lakewood High School corridor developed a following on Facebook, the local artist began pursuing his career in high school. His debut performance was at the Menage Lounge, a Clearwater strip joint.
In 2018, Green signed with Alamo Records, a new label. After his song Heart on Ice became viral on TikTok and broke the Billboard Hot 100 in 2020, his career took off. The rap musician recently gave away $25,000 in gas to local drivers, resulting in long queues and a large crowd at a St. Petersburg gas station on April 9.
Green was arrested for the second time in Atlanta in 2020. Green assaulted a promoter after narrowly avoiding injury when a stage fell during a concert in the city, according to his arrest affidavit. According to court documents, he was charged with violence in the encounter.
