Lupe Fiasco – “Galveston” (Single)
Lupe Fiasco seeks fresh perspectives on the state of the culture with his probing pen. Exploring the pain that dwells behind a celebratory holiday, Lupe shares “Galveston,” a powerful new song.
Commissioned by Apple Music as part of its ‘Juneteenth 2022: Freedom Songs’ collection, the song takes its name from the holiday’s East Texas origins–though Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, the emancipation didn’t fully take effect in Texas until the Union Army reached Galveston on June 19th, 1865.
The new song pays tribute to Texas and its role in Juneteenth, lyrically and sonically, with occasional drops into the chopped-n-screwed delivery common in Houston hip-hop.

The song is about Rubi taking hold of the narrative from her detractors and simply stating, “Rubi a hoe? That’s cap; I’m wifey.” Rubi brings along a conglomerate of vixens for the seductive visual, bouncing between a steamy car wash and being laid up in a bed of cash sporting a lacy and racy outfit.

Directed by Dang Films (BeatKing, KenTheMan, Erica Banks), the video pays homage to the stoner classic, Next Friday, with Jade adopting the role of fan-favorite Baby Joker. After racking up over 8.5 million views on the original YouTube and trending with hundreds of thousands of Tik Tok videos, Ron Suno goes crosstown to tap one of NYC’s slickest, Rowdy Rebel, for the “What They Gon Say” remix, dropping this Friday. Lyrical speed is the name of the game on this MP Beatz-produced track, as Ron and Rowdy fit close to 1000 words in just 2 minutes and 30 seconds of drill-base hits and fast-paced violin strings.
It’s not news that Ron’s quick and raunchy lyrics fit nicely on the beat, but the track goes up a level when Rowdy takes a spin on the Suno flow, rapping, “copped me a hunnid, went and backed out the wraith” and “Told Lil bro go get me a safe, as long as I keep me a gun I’m safe.” Rowdy’s presence gives an added gritty edge to the song to make it a stand-out track in the crowded NYC drill scene, a track that is sure to be a playlist mainstay for the NYC youth this summer.
