NeNe Leakes Sues Saying Racism Is Accepted On Set Of “RHOA”

NeNe Leakes filed a lawsuit against, NBC Universal, Bravo, True Entertainment, Truly Original, and Andy Cohen.

Former Real Housewives of Atlanta star NeNe Leakes has filed a lawsuit alleging that the show’s production company created a hostile and discriminatory work environment.

The Associated Press reported on Leakes’ case, which was filed in federal court in Atlanta on Wednesday. According to the complaint, Leakes has been complaining about racist statements from fellow “Housewife” Kim Zolciak-Biermann, who is white, for years. The suit claims, however, that Leakes was the only one who suffered repercussions.

NBC Universal, Bravo, production companies True Entertainment and Truly Original, officials from those organizations, and “Housewives” executive producer Andy Cohen are among the defendants in the complaint. Zolciak-Biermann is conspicuously absent.

The lawsuit argues that “NBC, Bravo, and True establish a corporate and professional culture in which racially insensitive and inappropriate behavior was condoned — if not encouraged.”

Between 2008 and 2020, NeNe Leakes, whose true name is Linnethia Monique Leakes, appeared on the show for seven seasons.

The following are some of the claims made in the lawsuit:

*** During the first season of the show, Zolciak-Biermann claimed she was told she didn’t want to go to a group BBQ because “I don’t want to hang around with NeNe and eat chicken.”

*** In the fifth season, Zolciak-Biermann is accused of making “racially insensitive and stereotyped” remarks regarding Kandi Burruss’ new home. She is accused of referring to the area as a “ghetto.”

*** Following a disagreement in 2012, Zolciak-Biermann allegedly used the N-word to refer to Leakes and other housewives. She also branded Leakes’ home a “roach nest” and claimed that she used narcotics.

“NeNe was the target of systemic racism from co-star Kim Zolciak-Biermann from the day the series began filming, which was permitted by Bravo executive producer Andy Cohen and other executives,” NeNe Leakes lawyer David deRubertis said in a statement.

According to the lawsuit, Leakes’ racist complaints resulted in her being fired from the show in 2020, before its 13th season.
