The Notorious B.I.G is coming back in the form of a realistic avatar.
Next month, Facebook parent company Meta will host a concert featuring Biggie, aka the Notorious B.I.G., in a digitally revived form. A hyper-realistic Biggie avatar will perform at the concert in front of a replica of Brooklyn from the 1990s. Sean “Diddy Combs, who is also performing, is one of the guests, and music journalist Touré will present a narrative account of Biggie’s life.
The Notorious B.I.G. Sky’s the Limit: A VR Event Experience is scheduled for December 16, 2022, to commemorate what would have been Biggie Smalls’ 50th birthday. The concert will only be available on Facebook and Meta VR. Wallace’s estate is working with the concert’s producers. Some of Notorious B.I.G.’s greatest hits will be included, along with a virtual reality reconstruction of Biggie’s Brooklyn, New York, residence in the 1990s.
Biggie isn’t the first performer to return in this way. In 2012, AV Concepts and Dr. Dre’s production company constructed an avatar of his former competitor Tupac, and Dr. Dre performed at Coachella with the hologram of the late rapper. There is a growing market for performances in virtual reality and within video games, with events including concerts with singers like Travis Scott and Ariana Grande in Fortnite and Blackpink in PUBG.
One can access Horizon Worlds with a Meta Quest headset. On December 16, the show will launch on Quest. Those without a headset can view a 2D feed of the show on The Notorious B.I.G.’s official Facebook page.
