Kanye West is working overtime to put in work.

Kanye West and Virgil Abloh have been working together for a long time prior to Abloh’s appointment as creative director at Louis Vuitton. In 2009, the two worked as interns for the Italian luxury brand Fendi, which marked the beginning of a friendship that has lasted more than a decade. According to The Sun, the couple “masterminded” their triumphs in the creative business together, subsequently confirming Virgil Abloh’s position as one of the most productive designers of the current generation of designers.

In 2010, Abloh was appointed creative director of Kanye West’s firm, Donda, where he is responsible for bringing all of West’s ideas to fruition. The Watch the Throne album, on which Abloh collaborated with Ye and JAY-Z, was also a success.

“Kanye is grieved by Virgil’s passing since the two of them had been friends for years and had done a lot of work together. Given the history between Ye and Abloh, it comes as no surprise that the rapper feels this way. As well as being West’s long-time partner, Abloh established his own brand, Off-WhiteTM, in 2013, which allowed him to direct his own designs and aesthetic vision independently.

When he was chosen to the position of creative director at Louis Vuitton in 2018, Abloh made history by being the first Black American to hold the position at a French luxury fashion business of color. Louis Vuitton is presently valued at almost $50 billion USD, with worldwide sales of around $15 billion USD.

West’s connection with the Louis Vuitton company dates back a decade when he partnered with them on a line of very successful shoes that became a worldwide sensation. The shoes, which were initially sold for $1,100 USD in 2009, are now worth more than $30,000 USD, according to Forbes. Since then, Ye has made waves in the fashion business, most notably with the introduction of his Yeezy clothing line in 2015.

Kanye and Virgil had the same vision, and now he feels obligated to continue his job at Louis Vuitton as a courtesy to him. It remains to be seen whether or not this rumor will be confirmed.
