Ghostface Killah long await album in the works.
After teasing fans with the prospect of a Supreme Clientele sequel since at least last October, Ghostface Killah has finally delivered an update. In a post on Reddit’s HipHopHeads forum on Sunday (September 25), the Wu-Tang Clan founder disclosed when Supreme Clientele 2 will be released as well as who will be executive producing.
“SUPREME CLIENTELE 2 IS EXECUTIVE PRODUCED BY: KANYE WEST, MIKE DEAN & PRODUCERPLUGUNI.COM,” he wrote. “DATE OF RELEASE: FEBRUARY 2022.”
He did not, however, provide any more information. Ghostface Killah spoke with Vulture magazine in April about the creation of the original Supreme Clientele and where his mind was at the time, which was 21 years ago.
The rapper said that while working on the songs “Nutmeg” and “One,” on Supreme Clientele, he developed an “unrecognizable style that I couldn’t tell you what it was.” The only thing I was trying to do was use some words that sounded nice together, and everyone is trying to figure out what I’m trying to say but, actually, I have no idea what I was trying to say since I didn’t have a rhythm. But something said, ‘Make a record,’ and that was it. Create a poem in a matter of minutes by just stringing words together, regardless of whether they signify anything. All you have to do is put them together.”
Ghostface Killah is getting ready to hit the road with GZA and Raekwon on Friday (October 1) as part of the 3 Chambers Tour, which will honor three classic albums — Ghostface Killah’s 1996 debut Ironman, GZA’s 1995 masterpiece Liquid Swords, and The Chef’s debut 1995 effort Only Built 4 Cuban Linx — in celebration of their respective 25th anniversary.
In Minneapolis, Minnesota, the tour begins on December 1st and concludes on December 18th in Indianapolis, Indiana, with stops in cities such as Chicago and Las Vegas as well as Boston, New York, Baltimore, and Atlanta along the route.
