Dj Kay Slay Public Memorial Planned At The Apollo Theater


Dj Kay Slay passed away last week at the age of 55.

Kay Slay, the beloved New York DJ, will be honored with a musical hero’s homage in his hometown on Sunday (April 24), friends, family, and admirers are invited to the public memorial service and procession. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to noon ET at Harlem’s iconic Apollo Theater, and will be followed by an automobile procession and horse-drawn carriage ride down 125th Street before continuing to East Harlem.

Dj Kay Slay (born Keith Grayson) died on Sunday after a fight with COVID-19 that lasted months. According to a statement from his family and HOT 97, Kay Slay, the legendary record spinner, producer, and label exec known for his all-star Streetsweeper series of studio albums and more than two dozen mixtapes, died at the age of 55 after a four-month coronavirus illness. Kay Slay was a long-time member of Hot 97’s radio station where he had a show called the Drama Hour.
